There are twelve signs in the Western zodiac, each one covering roughly a month of the calendar year and carrying its own distinct character, ruling planet, and elemental nature. This is a guide to all of them.

Dashi through Virgjëresha: the first six signs

Dashi (March 21 to April 19) is the first sign, a cardinal fire sign ruled by Mars. Dashi energy is direct, initiating, and often fiercely independent. The drive to start and to lead comes naturally here.

Demi (April 20 to May 20) is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus. Demi values beauty, stability, and sensory pleasure. Patience and persistence are its strengths; resistance to change is its recurring challenge.

Binjakët (May 21 to June 20) is a mutable air sign ruled by Mercury. Binjakët is curious, communicative, and adaptable, comfortable holding two perspectives at once and rarely satisfied staying in one place for long.

Gaforrja (June 21 to July 22) is a cardinal water sign ruled by the moon. Gaforrja is the sign most associated with emotional memory, home, and the people who feel like family. Nurturing and protective, it can also hold on far longer than serves it well.

Luani (July 23 to August 22) is a fixed fire sign ruled by the sun. Luani is generous, expressive, and drawn to creativity and performance. It wants to be seen and to shine, and at its best it does so in ways that genuinely warm the people around it.

Virgjëresha (August 23 to September 22) is a mutable earth sign ruled by Mercury. Virgjëresha is analytical, attentive to detail, and oriented toward service and improvement. It has one of the highest standards of any sign, and applies those standards to itself first.

Peshorja through Peshqit: the final six signs

Peshorja (September 23 to October 22) is a cardinal air sign ruled by Venus. Peshorja is relationship-oriented, aesthetically aware, and motivated by fairness. It can struggle to make decisions when every option seems genuinely valid.

Akrepi (October 23 to November 21) is a fixed water sign co-ruled by Mars and Pluto. Akrepi is intense, perceptive, and drawn to depth over surface. It is the sign most associated with transformation, intimacy, and the shadow self.

Shigjetari (November 22 to December 21) is a mutable fire sign ruled by Jupiter. Shigjetari is philosophical, optimistic, and genuinely interested in the larger meaning of things. It wants to understand everything, preferably from several different countries.

Bricjapi (December 22 to January 19) is a cardinal earth sign ruled by Saturn. Bricjapi is ambitious, disciplined, and oriented toward building things that last. Its relationship with time is unusually conscious: it thinks in years and decades where other signs think in days.

Ujori (January 20 to February 18) is a fixed air sign co-ruled by Saturn and Uranus. Ujori is idealistic, original, and strongly invested in collective wellbeing and future possibility. It is both the most individualistic and the most community-minded of signs, somehow simultaneously.

Peshqit (February 19 to March 20) is a mutable water sign ruled by Neptune. Peshqit is empathic, intuitive, and more comfortable than any other sign with ambiguity and the unseen. It is the zodiac's final sign, and it carries traces of everything that came before it.

The four elements and how they group the signs

The twelve signs are divided into four elements: fire, earth, air, and water. Fire signs (Dashi, Luani, Shigjetari) are energetic and action-oriented. Earth signs (Demi, Virgjëresha, Bricjapi) are practical and grounded. Air signs (Binjakët, Peshorja, Ujori) are intellectual and relational. Water signs (Gaforrja, Akrepi, Peshqit) are emotional and intuitive.

Your sun sign is a starting point

The sign the sun occupied when you were born tells you something true about you, but only something. The full picture includes your moon sign, your ashendenti, and where every planet sat in the sky at your birth. Many people find the combination of their sun, moon, and rising describes them far more accurately than any single placement does.

The birth chart tool can show you the full picture, and the horoskopi hub can show you what the current sky is doing for your sign specifically.

What determines your zodiac sign?

Your sun sign is determined by the position of the sun on the day you were born. The sun moves through each of the 12 signs over the course of a year, spending roughly 30 days in each one.

Can your zodiac sign change?

Your natal sun sign does not change. However, if you were born on or near the boundary between two signs (called a cusp), the exact date the sun changed signs in your birth year determines which sign you are.

Why does my zodiac sign not seem to describe me accurately?

Your sun sign is only one part of your astrological profile. Your moon sign, ashendenti, and the positions of other planets all shape your personality significantly. Many people feel more accurately described by their moon or ashendenti than their sun sign.

Are the dates for each zodiac sign fixed?

The dates shift slightly from year to year because the sun does not change signs at exactly the same time each year. The dates listed are approximate and should be verified with a birth chart calculator for precision.
