What Is Tasseography?

Tasseography (also called tasseomancy) is the art of reading patterns in tea leaves, coffee grounds, or wine sediment. The practice dates back to medieval Europe and ancient China, where monks would read the patterns formed by tea leaves in their cups.

The position of symbols in the cup matters: those near the rim relate to the near future, symbols in the middle to the coming weeks, and those at the bottom to the distant future or deep subconscious.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read tea leaves at home?

Use loose leaf tea (not bags). Drink your tea while focusing on your question, leaving a small amount of liquid. Swirl the cup three times, then turn it upside down on the saucer. Turn it back over and observe the patterns formed by the leaves.

What kind of tea is best for readings?

Traditional black tea with medium-sized leaves works best. The leaves should be small enough to form patterns but large enough to see. Avoid finely ground teas or herbal teas with large chunks.

Is tea leaf reading accurate?

Like all divination practices, tea leaf reading is a tool for reflection and intuitive exploration. The symbols serve as prompts for your subconscious mind, helping you access wisdom you may not consciously recognize.
